Description:

This DVD features over 90 minutes of LIVE performances from the May 8th, 2005 G3 show at the Tokyo Forum. Bonus features include the G3 soundcheck, with 3 individual commentary tracks by Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and John Petrucci. Product Description
After more than 20 years, Steve Vai continues to use unbridled guitar virtuosity and soulful artistry to explore the spectrum of human emotion. Vai creates a sound all his own by striking a balance between technical ability and poetic phrasing. Steve first stepped into the spotlight in 1980 as a guitarist in Frank Zappa's band. Since then he has played with other musicians including David Lee Roth, Joe Satriani, Ozzy Osborne, Public Image Limited, and Alice Cooper. These influences have had a profound effect on him and it shows in his music.

Visual Sound Theories consistes of orchestral music and other rich compostional pieces that Steve has written. Vai was commissioned to compose an hour of music for the Metropole Orkest in Holland but ended up putting together an exceptional two hours of quality work. The first CD of this double disc masterpiece has Steve conducting while the second CD contains conpositions of him playing guitar with the Orchestra. This new album is sure to impress the masses as it highlights some of Steve Vai's best work.
With the help of violinists Alex DePue and Ann Marie Calhoun, Steve Vai puts on an energy-filled, sold-out show in Minneapolis. Bassist Bryan Beller, drummer Jeremy Colson, guitarist Dave Weiner, and lapsteel player Zack Wiesinger also contribute to the cause of presenting Vai’s fans with an incredible performance. This concert features 27 songs including "Paint Me Your Face," "Shove the Sun Aside," and "For the Love of God."

Format: PAL, Widescreen

The Blu-Ray was recorded and filmed at the State Theatre in Minneapolis, MN before a sold-out audience as part of Vai's successful "Sound Theories" world tour. The Blu-Ray was released on November 10th, 2009.

Vai is widely known for both his unprecedented guitar playing techniques and the unique design of his signature series Ibanez Jem guitar. But his fans have become inextricably drawn to his melodic depth, and dynamic stage performance. The continued evolution of his craft is made apparent in the astonishing musicianship presented in Live In Minneapolis - Where The Wild Things Are. The 2 hour and 40 minute set contains several new tracks and re-orchestrated pieces culled from his rich catalog. Check out the trailer at:

The addition of virtuoso violinists Alex DePue and Ann Marie Calhoun add a dazzling dimension to Vaiâ??s compositions and stage show, delivering fans the unexpected edge they always expect. Other world-class musicians chosen for Vaiâ??s band are: Bryan Beller (bass), Jeremy Colson (drums), Dave Weiner (guitar and sitar) and Zack Wiesinger (lap steel).

NEW YORK, Feb. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Music Entertainment and Legacy Recordings have signed virtuoso guitarist/composer/producer Steve Vai to a new multi-album agreement which includes plans to issue two fresh Vai sets in 2015 beginning with the release of Stillness In Motion - Vai Live in L.A. on April 7, 2015.
Vai's first release under the new SONY/Legacy agreement will be Stillness In Motion - Vai Live in L.A., a spectacular performance recorded October 12, 2012 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. Available in 2CD and 2DVD configurations, Stillness In Motion revisits the 49th concert from Vai's monumental Story of Light World Tour.
Running from 2012 through 2014, The Story of Light World Tour totaled out at 253 engagements (including shows, master classes and concerts with various orchestras) in 52 countries.
In addition to the full Club Nokia performance, the 2DVD configuration of Stillness In Motion includes a bonus disc premiering "The Space Between the Notes (Tour Mischief)," a revelatory video diary comprised of more than three and a half hours of footage, lensed around the world on-stage, off-stage and behind-the-scenes during Vai's epic Story of Light World Tour.
"To say that this tour was a powerful life experience would be like saying the sun is hot," writes Steve Vai in his personal liner notes penned for Stillness In Motion.
Following Stillness In Motion, SONY/Legacy will release an album of new Steve Vai material, marking a significant next chapter in the musician's growing canon.
The new multi-album deal marks an SME homecoming for Vai, who set the gold and platinum standard for rock instrumental music across a series of albums released through Relativity and Epic Records from 1990's game-changing Passion and Warfare (his 2nd album and 1st major label release) through 2007's orchestral Sound Theories, Vol. I & II.
Vai will be hosting his second Vai Academy — the ultimate guitar experience — August 2-6, in beautiful Vail, Colorado, at The Arrabelle at Vail Square. With the theme All About The Guitar set for this year, attendees will spend four days and nights discovering the intricacies of the guitar while enjoying once-in-a-lifetime clinics, workshops and jams from the likes of Vai and his handpicked guest instructors, including special guests Eric Johnson and Sonny Landreth. Musicians of all ages and levels are welcome. For more information, visit: www.vaiacademy.com. Closing out the week of Vai Academy, Vai will headline Electric Day at Guitar Town on August 9 in Copper Mountain, Colorado, at The Village at Copper. The annual festival will also include performances that weekend by Eric Johnson, Robben Ford, Sonny Landreth, John Jorgenson and Andy McKee, among others

Stillness In Motion: Vai Live in L.A. was recorded October 2012 at Club Nokia in LA while Steve was on his two year worldwide Story of Light tour. This live 2DVD features new, arresting arrangements of his classic material and fan favorites, including material from his latest album, 2012 s The Story Of Light, plus exciting bonus material from his latest world tour. The DVD also includes over 3 hours of a video diary showing Steve and his band in rehearsals and goes through highlights from some the 253 shows they played around the world.

'The Story of Light', a new solo album of original material by virtuoso guitarist and visionary composer Steve Vai. The title comes out on Favored Nations Entertainment, the label Vai founded in 1999. Its sprawling and expressive 12-song set continues a conceptual and cosmic narrative arc begun on the artist's acclaimed 2005 album 'Real Illusions: Reflections'.
Throughout, three-time Grammy winner Vai's lead guitar is as lyrically resonant as it is technically masterful, his licks and solos bending sounds and in listeners' minds in equal measure. 'The Story of Light' follows the journey of a man driven mad by grief, intertwining tragedy, revelation, enlightenment, and redemption.
'I’m always pursuing knowledge. I'm a seeker of spiritual equilibrium and music is a big part of that,' says Vai. 'I've been obsessed with these kinds of ideas for years.'

Former Frank Zappa sideman and guitar virtuoso Steve Vai's volume is no exception to the standard. Included here are 12 studio and two live cuts from his long tenure with Sony and Epic. The cuts are arranged aesthetically rather than chronologically, making for a very solid mix. This one kicks off with "Erotic Nightmares" from his third album for the label, Passion and Warfare. Also included here are "Lotus Feet," "Salamanders in the Sun," "Love Secrets," and fine live versions of "You're Here," and "Whispering a Prayer." In addition to these 14 cuts, there is also bonus CD-R material to boot. While fans may have everything here already, this set serves as an excellent, modestly priced introduction to Vai's solo work.

STEVE VAI REFLECTS ON MULTI-FACETED CAREER WITH THE SECRET JEWEL BOX, AN INDIE 10-CD COMPILATION WITH RARITIES, SOUNDTRACKS, ZAPPA AND ALCATRAZZ YEARS

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- World-renowned guitarist Steve Vai has begun the process of documenting his storied career with the ultimate collectible, a 10-CD compilation titled The Secret Jewel Box. The deluxe 10"x6"x6" gloss black box, lined with red velvet, will feature compartments for a total of 10 CDs, 3 guitar picks, and a 100-page booklet. The first three CDs of the series will be sold with the box, while the remaining seven discs will be released and sold seperately over the next few years. The Secret Jewel Box contains recordings comprised of unreleased material and music from dozens of different records (many out of print) that might take years to collect individually (if you could even find them)! All of the rare and essential Vai recordings that do not appear on his solo records are collected here, with many surprises for even the most hardcore collector. When complete, the Box Set will contain more than 140 tracks. The Box Set will be available almost exclusively through Steve's official website, Vai.com.

The box and the first three CDs (The Elusive Light & Sound, Alcatrazz: Disturbing The Peace, and Frank Zappa; FZ Original Recordings; Vai Archives, Vol. 2, see explanations and track listings
here) sells for $65.00. Only 10,000 boxes will be manufactured. Those who purchase the box will be notified when the remaining seven CDs — which may be purchased separately upon their completion — are ready. The 100-page booklet will be sent out after the last CD is produced to those who have collected all the CDs within the box.

The 10 CDs of The Secret Jewel Box are not a compilation of Vai’s catalog, but rather something far more conceptual. The series includes soundtracks, rarities, outtakes and oddities, out of print albums, Vai’s recordings with Zappa and with early bands Alcatrazz and the Classified, acoustic piano interpretations of Vai songs, even an eclectic audio art project. You can take a look at the CDs in closer detail as well as tracklisting information
here.
(Note: The aforementioned three CDs are sold together along with the deluxe box. The remaining CDs will be sold seperately. Those who purchase the box will be notified of the following seven volumes as they are released.)
